Guides / Mail-in consignment
Mail-in consignment at the Cabin follows a fixed order: you inquire and book a 15-minute call, we tell you whether the material fits, you approve the path, you sign a private online agreement, labels unlock after you are fully signed, you ship what you both agreed to, we list, and you get paid the first week after each calendar month ends. You do not ship blind. You do not need a full inventory list to start.
When you are ready, start at cardboardcabin.com/consign.
If you are still deciding whether consigning beats listing it yourself or selling the whole box, that comparison lives in Consign, List It Yourself, or Sell the Box — Which Fits. This page is the process.

Step 1: Inquiry and the 15-minute call
Tell us what you have in plain language. For a first conversation, these details are usually enough:
- Sports (or a mix)
- Rough era
- About how many boxes or binders
- Mostly raw, mostly graded, or both
- Any cards you already know matter
We use that call to say whether the collection fits the catalog we actually run — or to say plainly when another path is a better fit. We will not ask you to catalog an entire lifetime of collecting before you have talked to someone.
Inherited boxes and still stuck on the first step? Start with What to Do With Dad’s Sports Cards.
Step 2: You approve before you ship
We do not ask you to ship until you have approved the path. That means you know we are willing to take the material, you understand the two-box capacity, and you are not mailing a blind package into a black hole.
If the answer is no — wrong lane, wrong timing, or a collection we would only sit on — we say so before labels exist.
Step 3: Private online agreement, then labels
After the call, you get a private link on your phone: a short intake video, then your signature. You will not be asked to sign a blank public form.
Labels unlock only after you are fully signed. Shipping materials follow the agreement, not the other way around. This path is for online / mail-in consignors. If you already brought the cards in person, you do not need a shipping label from this flow.
For a new online or mail-in consignor, the first prepaid inbound label is on Superfly. Concurrent or later labels: you pay postage; Superfly covers insurance. We do not issue shipping labels for in-person drop-offs. Live rules on the consign page and ops gate win if anything ever conflicts.
Step 4: Pack and ship what you both agreed to
Pack so the cards survive the trip. Use tracking. Ship only what you and the Cabin agreed to take. If something was declined on the call, leave it out.
When the box arrives, it counts against the two-box cap until it is processed. That is intentional.
Step 5: Listing and the monthly payout clock
We list the cards. You choose how you want to get paid: PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, check by mail, in-person payout, or store credit with a bonus. Payouts go out the first week after each calendar month ends.
Your net (what you keep) depends on the listing tier. The live rate table on the consign page is the source of truth — check that page rather than any guide summary if numbers ever differ.
If an item does not sell, you cover return shipping or we can relist it at no extra cost — same rule as the consign page.
The two-box cap
One box in-house, one box in transit or scheduled. You cannot book a third until one of those boxes has been processed.
Clear capacity is how inventory keeps moving and payouts stay real. Inherited and lifelong collections get lost when a shop takes everything at once and lets it sit.
Declined items and wrong-fit boxes
We reserve the right to decline anything that does not fit our catalog. Declined items ship back at your expense, or you can donate them.
- Ultra-modern sports, SP and parallel volume, and Pokémon belong in a different lane — Paul Carl Cards is the usual handoff, not a Cabin stretch.
- Flippers looking for a velocity pipeline are not our consignors.
- Cash needed this week does not match a monthly consign clock — a buyout or listing yourself may fit better.
Book the 15-minute consign call
You do not need the whole collection sorted. You need a straight conversation about what you have and whether mail-in consigning at the Cabin is the right path.

Consign at the Cabin — cardboardcabin.com/consignFAQ
Do I need a full inventory list before I consign?
No. Rough sports, era, box count, graded versus raw, and known keys are enough for the first call.
Can I ship before we talk?
No. Talk and approve first. Labels unlock only after you fully sign the private online agreement.
What if the cards are not a fit?
Declined items go back at your expense, or you can donate them. We will say when another shop is a better handoff.
How do payouts work?
Net rates by listing tier are on the consign page. Payouts go out the first week after each calendar month ends.
How many boxes can I send?
Two-box cap: one in-house, one in transit or scheduled. Book another only after one has been processed.
